Craig – The Boss

Onsite Engineering’s founder Craig Hallam has 25 years experience in the industry and has been welding ever since his father taught him how at the age of 8. He’s a time-served tradesman, a qualified sheet metal engineer and a ticketed welder.

Craig loves challenges – the bigger the better – and mixes his aptitude for problem solving with his project management skills and vision for business.

His previous jobs include being a self-employed contractor in Australia and Fiji and his favourite projects since starting Onsite have been the behemoth jobs: the Waiwera Viaduct and the Newmarket Viaduct Gantry restrengthening.

Daryl – Works Manager

Daryl originally came to Onsite as a labourer and has risen his way through the ranks over a 6 year period to become Works Manager. He is Craig’s right hand man and has consequently earned the moniker: Deputy Daryl.

A ticketed welder, he’s responsible for the the co-ordination of projects and matching the skills of the guys in the team to the appropriate job.

Previously Daryl worked in forestry, transport painting, landscaping and as a motor mechanic. He cites his “glory job” as the one which involved him designing, fabricating, fitting and welding an upper extension on large transporter truck for The Hire Company.

Natasha – Administration & Finance Manager

Taking care of the customers and the paperwork, Natasha looks after the accounting, management and training of the staff.

She is passionate about great customer service and attention to detail and she’s proud of the fact that the business has gone from 1 person in a garage to 23 people in 1000sq metre workshop.

She has a Master’s Degree from Auckland University and is a MYOB Certified Consultant.

Her favourite aspects of the job are meeting people, looking at new ways to grow the business and the satisfaction of developing a team that feels like a family.

Mike – Team Leader

After 25 years in the industry Mike is just as excited about the job as he’s ever been. He holds a Trade Certificate as a Fitter/Welder and is also a Ticketed Welder.

Mike loves creating and constructing things from scratch and his specialist skills include Non Ferris fabrication and welding and the technical design of spreader bins.

Mike spent 20 years at Marvik Engineering and before that was a roofing contractor. His favourite Onsite job so far has been a 38 foot cabin extension with a custom fish station for a boat.

Brett – Welder/Fabricator

After 7 years in the industry Brett is a “jack of all trades” and highly adaptable. He is a qualified Mobile Crane Operator and a Class 1 over dimensional pilot.

His previous employment includes: Fulton Hogan, Hallam Engineering, MS Engineering, Parker Engineering and BJ Contracting.

Brett loves the fact that his job allows him to be creative every day and that he gets to make things for a living.

Roger – Welder/Fabricator

Roger specialises in the stainless steel work and he’s had alot of practice: before joining Onsite he worked for Blue Fin Ali Boats, Stainless Specialities, Sheep Shed Ships and Middlesex Inharts boat services.

Roger calls himself a perfectionist and loves getting things right to the millimetre. His favourite Onsite projects are the ones where he gets to build boats, so ask him to knock up a tinny for you and your mates – he'll be only too happy.

Kevin – Machinist

Kevin is our specialist in Machining and Maintenance. He’s been 36 years in industry, is a time-served tradesman and he’s qualified in Fitting & Turning.

Before joining Onsite he'd worked at USG Interiors, James Hardie, at a tannery, a fishing company and at a spring making company.

Kevin loves seeing the culmination of the team’s effort and skills in the finished product and his favourite project so far has been his work on some innovative spreader bin designs.

Dave – 3rd year Apprentice

Dave is in his third year as an apprentice, he already holds a Certificate in First Line Management and is working towards his National Certificate in General Engineering.

He previously worked at Erwins and also did a spot of farming. His specialist skills are setting up the power press and tool room work.

Dave loves the variety of work that gets thrown his way, it keeps him on his toes as he never knows what he’ll get next.

Rachel – Systems Compliance Manager

Rachel has been in a variety office roles for nearly ten years with occasional pauses due to having a family.

As Systems Compliance Manager she is responsible for much of the day to day organisation and co-ordination of the office and she specialises in task/system analysis – constantly looking for ways to improve and streamline our workflow.

She holds a certificate in office systems and a trade certificate in Typing and Word Processing. Her previous roles include being a postie for NZ Post, a nanny and a full-time mum.

She loves the Human Resources side of the role and the flexibility of her hours.
